For me, the Summer 2017 racing season was notable for many reasons

By Stu Chase It took until the Summer of 2018, but I finally received one of those bada** big plaques for winning a national championship–I am a para paddler, and in 2017 I won the VL3 200m race (No, I don’t expect anyone outside of para to understand what that category means!) It felt incredibly special to hold this award in my hands. It’s going to hang proudly on my wall (right next to my wife’s!! SHE won a national championship when we were teenagers. Kate Ballem, Juvenile women’s K1 500m champion, 1997. Look it up!).     My new plaque, […] Read More

In 1995, Canada was the first country to include women-in-canoe at its Nationals

By Wendy Perkins   I am sharing this post in honour of our own Sheila Kuyper who ignited a vision for women to paddle Canoe in the Olympics – just as men do. She is an extraordinary paddler. In 1995, Canada was the first country to include women-in-canoe at its Nationals. Sheila set records that were unrivalled at the time and is known as Canada’s most decorated female canoeist, (8 Golds in 1997 alone) and she began to champion inclusion for women in canoe at the Olympics. What a long road it proved to be! I am proud to have helped a […] Read More

The Betsiamites really is one of our greatest find

By Quebec Connection   The Betsiamites really is one of our greatest find. It is such a shame that we might never paddle this gem again. This river would be a worldclass section of whitewater with a natural flow. There is nothing cooler than the national team

By Katie Vincent   For as long as I can remember my dream has been to compete for Canada at the Olympics. Something about wearing a maple leaf on the biggest sporting stage in the world fuels me every day.     I played a lot of different sports growing up, my mom can tell you many stories of picking me up from the ski hill after Sunday morning training in Collingwood so I could make it back to Mississauga for my Sunday afternoon hockey game (I was a very lucky kid). I was high-level alpine skiing around the same […] Read More

I was basically born with a paddle in my hands

By Liam Fisher   Back to where it all began. I was basically born with a paddle in my hands. My dad was an Olympic gold medalist in sprint kayaking, a tremendously physical sport that balances strength, power and finnesse into the narrowest of boats! Before I could walk he used to put me on his lap and take me out paddling. By the time I was in school you bet I was out on the water myself. By 14, I was racing competitivley and not long after that was making development squads heading down to California and Florida for […] Read More
